Our 2nd Annual International Food Tasting Festival was held on Nov 4th at Villa Flores.

The Club de Leones de Playas del Coco would like to thank all of those dedicated businesses and individuals that contributed their international delicacies to make the 2nd Annual International Food Tasting Festival such a success.  Even with the last minute move to Hotel Villa Flores, the community came out in force to support the event.  The funds from the day went to the “Comité de Salud” to help those in need in our community.

The “Comité de Salud” is teh commitee in charge to receie and analyse the help request from people in great necessities like these:

The cases are documented with names, directions, medical reports, and we have visited each case.

 

 

Case #1: Mrs. Paula: Need a special wheel chair with head support and belt. The lady lives in a house with no electric installation; her daughter with two children takes care of her. The house is not apt for wheelchair; the floor has to be fixed to give access to the bathroom. Actual chair is in bad condition and inapt for her condition; her head falls down if not maintained in place.

Approximate cost: $550

 

Case #2: Needs an orthopedic bed. The lady is paralyzed and had spent 18 years in a bed. She has no mobility from the neck to the feet.  Her actual bed is just made with a thin foam mattress. The family is very poor.

Approximate cost: $700.

Case #3: A 6 year’s old child, he has drepanosistosis disease, plus other complications; he had two surgeries, he needs blood transfusions on a regular basis. He has four brothers with very fragile health too. The husband works as a clerk but can not afford all the cost of transportation etc. The mother takes care of the kids and has to go to the hospital on regular basis. They need help to cover the cost of transportation. She will need to go to San Jose with her son twice in the next 2 months.

Cost for the two trips: $100.

Case #4: Needs a walker.  The lady suffer severe diabetes, she cannot walk by herself she has to lean along the walls and pass most of the time sitting.  Approximate cost: $60

The Lions Club has completed 11 years of volunteer work in our community, assisting the adults and children that are in the greatest need.
